The remarkable and timeless India Club on the Strand

Over the past few weeks I’ve been busy organising the final On London event of 2022 – a Christmas Party and End of Year Review which will be held at the unique and extraordinary India Club at 143 Strand.

Loads of the website’s supporters have accepted my invitation to enjoy a London quiz, a look back at the year in elections and political trends, some quality guest speakers and twice as much food and drink as originally planned because the Central District Alliance BID company offered to sponsor the event.

The India Club, right by Aldwych, King’s College and Somerset House, is a remarkable and historic institution, whose special charm is that it has changed very for little for over half a century. For the last few years it has been in danger of being redeveloped by its landlord, but has hung on throughout the pandemic and out the other side.

Here is a BBC London report from 2018.

Here is the club’s own campaign video from October 2020.

There’s more about the India Club at Wikipedia.

PS: On London and Central District Alliance have also worked together on a supported content project, involving Vic Keegan writing a series of articles about locations of historic interest in the area CDA represents.  If you  missed it, the articles are archived HERE.

On London strives to provide more of the kind of  journalism the capital city needs. Become a supporter for just £5 a month. You will even get things for your money. Details here
